Location

Tranwell Aerodrome is located approximately 7 miles north west of Newcastle- upon-Tyne, UK. It is within sight of the A1 trunk road leading to Scotland – look for the water tower just to the south of Morpeth). The airfield is one of the markers for Newcatle International Airport’s controlled airspace, and has not been used regularly by aircraft since its closure at the end of the Second World War.

The runway we hope to use is the east/west aligned strip in the centre of the picture. It is more than 1/2 a mile from the VERY exclusive Tranwell Woods housing development (Kevin Keegan once lived there…). To the east is the former St. Mary’s Hospital, which is in line for future development as a housing and business complex.
